The Inspiration Behind R. L. Owens Craft
I have always loved making people smile through my work. In the pursuit of transforming my passion to make sentimental and meaningful crafts that others could treasure in their hearts for years to come, I came across the idea to bring joy through my work full time. From there, I took inspiration from my adoptive father, a retired toolmaker of admirable skill with a talent for woodworking. My CAD skills complimented the work he did in his home workshop. Having been let go from my job after a company buy out, I finally had the opportunity to expand my skillset through watching him. When he started experimenting with laser cutting, an idea came to me after looking through photos of my deceased dog, Charlie. I wanted to see his face on a wooden ornament hanging from the Christmas Tree.
Charlie and my desire to keep his memory forever close is what inspired me to use the skills I learned from my adoptive dad combined with my CAD background to start R. L. Owens Craft. Adopted from a crowded shelter where he would have otherwise been put to sleep, Charlie and I bonded almost instantly. We remained a closely bonded duo for eight years until he was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor that no vet could cure, leaving me devastated and shattering my whole world. He died in the year 2022. His memory lives on as the catalyst for R. L. Owens Craft. He is also proof that shelter animals are precious friends for life and have all the love in the world to give if you allow them a second chance.
As for how I came up with the name of my business, the R stands for my father’s first name, Robert, while the L stands for my own name, LeAne. The purple color of the logo represents my favorite color while the blue is the Owens family color. Lastly, the flowers in the logo are in honor of the late family matriarch, Grandma Lenora Owens.
Famous in the Owens family for her green thumb, she kept the hill in full bloom. The flower, Hydrangea, is present in the last photo she took in life. After her death, the flower bush and many of the plants on the famous Owens hill stopped blooming. The Hydrangea in the R. L. Owens Craft logo is to immortalize her memory just as I hope to immortalize the memory of other’s loved ones through my custom products.

About Myself
My name is Patricia LeAne Owens. I was adopted by Robert Owens Jr. and Patricia Ann Owens as a newborn. I have enough of an attachment to the Owens family name despite having no blood relation to it that I even kept it after marriage. I grew up in the state of Louisiana along side my deceased little brother Robert “Pete” Owens the Third. We are living proof that blood doesn’t make a family so much as love does. We moved to Tennessee where my adoptive parents were born and raised in my mid teenage years due to my adoptive father’s search for work as a toolmaker.
Along side my skills as an artist, I have a background in CAD. I stumbled upon this skillset after spending much of my late teenage years and early twenties trying desperately to afford college. Thanks to the Tennessee Reconnect Program, I instead found my way into CAD at a trade school and took to it like a fish to water. I spent a little over five years working on the 3d models of marine engines. In the year 2018, I won third in the state of Tennessee for technical drafting in the Skills USA Competition. Additionally, I have my name on a patent from my time at a marine engine company.
I also happen to be a huge animal lover. I likely got my penchant for rescuing animals and bringing them home from my dad. From birds, cats, dogs, and everything in between, my adoptive dad and I have brought home a whole zoo worth of animals in our lifetimes. It just comes to show that even without a genetic connection, the apple still does not fall far from the tree.
